I have been slightly obsessed ever since I came across this app called Green Screen by Do Ink. They also have a companion app called Animation and Drawing by Do Ink. It's funny because when my teaching position changed this year to full time in the computer lab I was so excited that I could focus all my attention to technology projects. I thought this would be less distracting for my brain! Silly me! Apps like this keep my wheels spinning with ideas!
Following Do Ink on Twitter made the ideas continue to flow! I recently saw this post via Twitter by @lpospishil sharing how to create a green screen in keynote to use with Tellagami! I couldn't believe how easy it was to smash up my finished Tellagami video with the Do Ink Green Screen app!

I had also started playing around with the animation app by Do Ink to create an intro I could use for my students to share jokes and riddles as part of our school announcements or posted here on the blog. It took many practice attempts but I'm sort of a stickler for perfect timing and just the right audio when creating videos! Not to say it's perfect, but I try to get it as close as I can...and then I have to let some things go!
I used the animation to create the floating letters (one at a time) to come into the screen. Then I added a duck that the app luckily had as one of the images in the gallery. Our school mascot is the Dux hence the "quacker" play on words to go with our school name.
I imported it into imovie where I gave it a filter that added a purple glow! This was getting better by the moment-our school colors are purple and green! Then I found some sound effects in imovie that matched pretty well and saved it to the camera roll.
In the meantime I used Tellagami with my keynote created green background to tell a joke. The first few times I didn't have the avatar lined up in the corner well enough and it covered up part of my background text for the "quacker" screen. It was an easy fix but another few steps to go back in and rerecord my gami. Keep this in mind as you create your project!
Then I opened the Green Screen app and loaded my animation video, my Tellagami, and finally an image of gummy bears to show the answer. Shew!
My next step to work through was the sharing process. This seemed easy enough but I'm willing to admit that I missed an simple step! When I was finished I was looking at my final project in the gallery mode and used the share button there. This let me save to google drive or dropbox. I thought that was PERFECT! However I learned that it saved in an unusable file. I was baffled until I went quickly to the internet to search for tutorials.
That's when I found this one:

Of course after all that work I felt like I knew the app pretty well but somehow in all my multi-tasking I had missed the obvious. The SHARE button in the editing mode of the project ....yes, the one right next to the play button I had pushed a million times. THIS button let me save to the camera roll! Done!
Now the possibilities are endless! I believe this app is worth every penny! In fact I would suggest the Do Ink Creativity Bundle which is how I purchased them both.
All this work for a 17 second video clip? Is it worth it? I say, "APP-solutely!" All the skills that are learned in the process open the doors to creative work yet to be seen! If I can spark an interest in a student that leads to their lifelong career journey, I'll have done my job well!
